You Don't Need More Energy. You Need This Instead.

Some weeks you do everything. You show up, keep going, push through, answer every message, and still arrive at Sunday feeling hollow.

Not tired from doing too little. Tired in a way that rest doesn’t quite reach.

Most of us learned that the answer to feeling behind is always more. More effort, more discipline, more energy. If the week left you empty, you must not have given it enough. So the next week you give it more, and arrive at the next Sunday a little emptier.

I don’t think the problem is usually how much energy you have. It’s where it goes.

A week can be completely full and still contain almost nothing of you. Hours spent answering, adjusting, proving, keeping things smooth for other people. All of it necessary, maybe. Very little of it chosen.

The week wasn’t too full.

It just wasn’t yours.

That is a different kind of tired, and more energy doesn’t fix it. You can’t hustle your way into feeling whole, any more than you can rush your way into calm.

What helps is smaller and harder to see: steadiness. The plain ability to decide what deserves your attention, and to let some other things wait. It doesn’t look like much from the outside, and it rarely gets praised. But it carries you through the hard weeks in a way that motivation never does.

The women I admire most for this are not the ones doing the most. They’re the ones who have stopped needing to look busy to feel worthwhile.

It shows up in love, too. Pouring everything into keeping a relationship running, being endlessly available, fixing, smoothing, can feel like devotion. Sometimes it is. Sometimes it is the same hollow week, just with someone else’s name on it.

It usually starts smaller than people expect. One hour in a week that belongs to you, kept without explaining it to anyone.

There is a version of you underneath all that output who doesn’t need to prove anything.

She hasn’t gone anywhere. She’s just been very busy.
